Please email us at strausschiropractic@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
First, we have been committed to giving quality chiropractic care to as many people as possible since 1967. Consequently, you can expect us to make your visit as easy, convenient, affordable, and enjoyable as possible. On your first visit, you will be asked to fill out some paperwork (it’s not bad, in fact you can download the forms from our website and fill them out before you get it here.) Then you will watch a short (literally 5-minute) video on how we do things in our office. Even if you’ve been to a chiropractor before, we kindly request that you watch this video tailored specifically for our office. Our practice has unique aspects that set us apart from other chiropractic offices.
After completing these simple procedures, you will meet with one of the chiropractors in our office and have a discussion about yourself and our office to see if we are a good fit for each other. If we agree you are in the right place, you will receive your first adjustment on that initial visit.
Unfortunately, most of the time, you cannot know. It is true that some vertebral subluxations may be accompanied by pain and/or muscle spasm, but most are not. The only way to be absolutely sure is to have your spine checked by a chiropractor. Your spine is the single most important organ you have, and to be your best you need to take ongoing care of it. Misalignments of the spine, called vertebral subluxations, occur regularly in people of ALL ages due to physical, chemical, and emotional stresses that constantly bombard our body.
You can’t know for sure if you have vertebral subluxation without having your spine checked. Chiropractors themselves cannot tell if they need an adjustment without someone else checking their spine for vertebral subluxation. Your body may have subluxations with or without symptoms. Chiropractors are the ONLY health care professionals trained to locate, analyze, and correct vertebral subluxations.
Almost any fall or accident could cause a subluxation, as could poor posture; physical, emotional or chemical stresses; birth trauma; or any one of thousands of other things or any combination of some or all of those things. Any force that your body is unable to adapt can cause a subluxation. In fact, almost everyone has subluxations at some time or another, often in childhood. Unless these subluxations are corrected, you will spend your entire life being less than you could be. Having your spine checked regularly for vertebral subluxations is a significant way to maintain optimal body function and maximize performance in all areas of your life.
Absolutely!! Anyone with a spine should have it checked and adjusted as necessary. Misalignments of a child’s spine (i.e., vertebral subluxation) distort the nerve system the same as they do in adults and keep children from reaching their potential in every area of life. Studies have shown that regular pediatric chiropractic care can bolster children’s immune systems, improve sleep quality, even improve behavior and attitude.
It’s never too soon to have a child’s spine checked. Vertebral subluxation can occur at any time. The first one may have occurred during the baby’s birth. That is why parents who understand the benefits of chiropractic have their newborn babies checked by a chiropractor as soon after birth as possible. After that, a child does countless things every day that will impact their spines and possibly cause vertebral subluxation. Learning to walk alone will result in the child falling thousands of times on their rear, impacting their spine every time.
It’s important to note that adjustments of the child’s spine are quite different than those of adults. Typically, only a light touch is required to adjust the child’s vertebra. Our chiropractors have seen hundreds of kids over the last 30+ years and would love to take care of your children too!
Absolutely!! If chiropractic is important for everybody (and it is), then it is doubly important for a woman during pregnancy. Regular chiropractic care should be an integral part of maternity care for every pregnant woman to improve both physical and emotional health. The physical stress of pregnancy is obvious. Adjustments can reduce pressure on the spine and its subsequent distortion to the nerve system. This allows the mother’s body to function better in every regard.
What’s more, every beneficial thing a pregnant woman does for herself benefits the baby growing inside her. When the mother’s body is working properly, the developing fetus will function better, grow and develop better, and be delivered in the easiest, most efficient manner possible.
Yes! Pregnant women can and should receive regular chiropractic care before, during, and after pregnancy! And Strauss Chiropractic would be happy to help you with that!
No. Our office does not run by appointment. Everyone is a walk in and is taken care of on a first come, first served basis. You are welcome to come any time during our regular business hours. The only exception is for a first time visit. For people who are new to the office there are still no appointments, we just ask that you come at least an hour before we close.
That is really up to you. If you are really serious about being the best that you can be physically, mentally, and emotionally, then you need to add chiropractic to your life. Just like anything you do for your health -- drink water, go to the gym, get a good night’s rest, brush your teeth -- if it makes sense to do, it makes sense to do regularly.
Yes. Since a chiropractic adjustment is a specific force, applied in a specific direction to a specific joint, it is virtually impossible to adjust oneself safely, correctly and accurately. It is possible to turn or bend or twist in certain ways to create the “popping” sound that sometimes accompanies a chiropractic adjustment. Unfortunately, this type of joint manipulation is usually counterproductive, often making an already unstable spine even more unstable and can sometimes be dangerous. Adjusting the spine is not to be taken lightly and should never be attempted by anyone other than a doctor of chiropractic.
The fee system in our office was created because of our firm belief that no one can set a price on an individual’s life and health. For us to place a price on this service would surely keep someone from being able to afford care. At the same time, good health is invaluable and worth so much more than anyone could pay. We feel strongly feel that this service should be made affordable and available to every individual and family.
For this reason, we offer the “Honor Fee System” so that each person can pay according to his or her financial means. No, we do not accept insurance and never have. However, in this office YOU set the fee, not us. If the fee you set is honest and reasonable for your financial situation, it is fine with us.
NOTE: This system is NOT a charity, it is NOT a donation, and it is NOT to be taken advantage of. It is merely a simple and honest approach to the problem of the spiraling cost of living and makes chiropractic affordable for all who wish to receive it. If you aren’t satisfied with your current level of performance or if you think you see room for improvement in your life, then you owe it to yourself to have your spine checked and see what life is really like when you’re running on all cylinders! Potential is something we’ve all been blessed with. Whether or not you fully express it is entirely up to you!
Actually, chiropractic adjustments don’t always produce a sound. Often, however, adjustments may be accompanied by a “popping” sound. The sound is caused when a change in pressure occurs and releases a little pocket of gas in the joint. Many people think this release feels good, but if the sound is an issue for you please let us know. Chiropractic adjustments can be done without causing that sound and are just as effective. Remember, they don’t make noise when they “go out,” they don’t need to make noise to be adjusted.
Yes. FSAs and HSAs can typically be allocated for health-related services and products, including chiropractic services. We are happy to provide you with a receipt for reimbursement. Please verify reimbursement details with your employer.
Yes. It’s an unfortunate fact that 20 to 40% of back surgeries are not unsuccessful.
Each adjustment is specific and individualized to each person and his or her needs on that visit. Sometimes, modifications to the adjustment are necessary, or certain areas of the spine may need to be avoided altogether. Nevertheless, removing any interference to the nerve system benefits the body overall. Rest assured, we will review your case and talk things through before we get you on the table.
Chiropractic does not diagnose or treat any specific disease or symptoms. However, chiropractic does care for people with every imaginable disease. Regular ongoing chiropractic adjustments improve nerve system function. And because your nerve system runs your body, the healthier your nerve system is, the better your body functions regardless of the presence or absence of symptoms.
Chiropractic care has an exceptional safety record when provided by trained, licensed professionals (of course, anything else is really not chiropractic care.) Because Chiropractic is a conservative and natural approach to health that avoids invasive procedures or addictive drugs it is significantly safer than traditional therapeutic measures. One need only compare malpractice rates between chiropractors and other health care professionals to see evidence. The cost of malpractice insurance is directly related to the amount of risk involved. Premiums for chiropractors are a fraction of those for medical doctors which directly reflects just how safe it is.
Doctors of Chiropractic are well educated. Most students interested in becoming chiropractors begin their journey by acquiring four years of pre-medical undergraduate college education. Then they begin a 4-5 year graduate school doctoral program at one of the nationally accredited chiropractic colleges. The curriculum requires a minimum of 4,200 hours of classroom, lab, and clinical internship. After graduating with a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree, each candidate must pass the demanding, four-part, National Board Examinations and then apply and be tested for an individual state license. However, a chiropractor’s education never ends. Virtually all states (including Pennsylvania) require doctors to complete ongoing postgraduate instruction for licensure renewal and to stay current on the latest research and adjustment techniques.
